London-based packaging and design agency Bulletproof were charged with re-branding all brand assets of the Football Association of Wales. One of it's foremost assets is the FAW Welsh Cup; a trophy which is keenly contested and considered the most prestigious in Welsh domestic football.
As part of the re-branding project Chris Mitchell was commissioned by Bulletproof to re-draw this important sporting emblem. The new icon had to retain an element of the Welsh dragon which was achieved by depicting a dynamic flame twisting around the abstract version of the cup. The flame is jagged at the bottom of the trophy, mimicking the end of a dragon's tail. The cup had to be carefully crafted so as to appear modern in it's simplistic form but retain sufficient detail so as to remain identifiable to it's devoted fans.
