Brewer Riddiford, commissioned Chris Mitchell to create a salty sea-dog character to feature as the Captain Birds Eye brand icon. The icon appeared on large branded cardboard boxes used for safe transportation of the Birds Eye food products. The simplistic style of the illustration was suitable to maintain print clarity.
