Classic brand icons seen in abundance at Goodwood Revival

Rolls-Royce Spirt of Ecstasy
Spirit of Ecstasy

Beautiful heritage car emblems; by Chris Mitchell

I am continually inspired by what I see around me. A piece of sculpture beautifully crafted, defined in shape by light and shade can stimulate endless ideas. Goodwood Revival offers a great local resource to see beautiful heritage car brands.

Many of the major classic brands are recognised by their famous three dimensional mascots, which sit on top of the car radiator caps. Other heroic and majestic designs can be discovered representing lesser known brands today but notable in their day.

These crafted mascots have influenced my approach to some of my more dramatic and iconic brand projects.

I am encouraged to explore 3D printing or sculpture to further my client's and my own interest.

Following on from my interest in car figurines, I felt truly honoured and very excited to be commissioned by Marina Willer to work with her team at Pentagram. To create a beautiful brand icon of the majestic and world famous Rolls-Royce 'Spirt of Ecstasy'. Whilst the original three dimensional figurine designed by British artist Charles Sykes remains unchanged the two dimensional illustrative icon required a more contemporary refined direction for the virtual digital world.
